I am sure most of you have read this book or at least watch its movie. To what extent is the author able to make the fantasy more believable than a realistic work?
I think that the author is able to make the fantasy more believable than a realistic work to a great extent. With the use of descriptive language and detailed description of the different scenes, one will find it easy to imagine how the story plot unfolds and thus finding it very believable although it is just a fantasy. I think that a fantasy will appeal to both children and adults if the author is able to make the story fun and easy to comprehend.
From the book, the author used descriptive words and it not only allows the reader to gain insights, but the author was able to incorporate the story into modern day mythology.
I agree that the book has been written with descriptive words and the author uses special myths, places, times and characters to make a fictional world more believable and interesting. The book and movie appeals to both children and adults.
Rowling has managed to create characters whom we are familiar with and can identify to.
The smart-alec Hermione, the insecure Ron and the accidental hero Harry are characters one faces everyday. Even though they have magical powers, they face the same teenage problems (e.g. Friendship, bullies, teachers, love, etc) that all of us face.
Through her vivid description (Rowling spares no details when talking about a scene or a person or even an object), she makes us feel as if we are there and we can form our own mental imagery of the character or scene.
Therefore, it is hard not to feel that sometimes HP is real.
This fantasy is made real through the use of vivid and descriptive language. The different scenes in the book are well described which make reader able to form mental imagery of the settings. This is a fantasy that is unique which it is much like our own, yet very different at the same time.
I would say it's the Hogwarts school. It's like a boarding school where students live in dormitories, have lessons, like/dislike a particular teacher which children may/may not relate to, eating and chatting about school work at the dining hall (canteen).
The author, J. K. Rowling is able to make the fantasy more believable than the realistic world to a great extend.
First of all, Rowling had made used of words to portray vivid description. No details are spared, Rowling had even added in events of the daily life like 'witch hour' and 'witch' radio station. It allows reader to link this back into the world they are living in now.
Secondly, the main characters Rowling had chosen, are human being. They are students studying in a magic school. This is closer to home compared to magical creatures that can talk; for example in "The lord of the rings" the characters involves elves and hobbits.
Last but not least, Rowling had created a world where problems are solved (eventually, although there are losses and difficulties on the way)and the good 'guy' win. This is a kind of world people are more willingly to believe in. However, in the realistic world, things may not that perfect but people still want to believe in a world where the good people will always win the fight.
I thought Rowling did a good job in making it believable with good character development making the reader have a feeling towards Harry's situation. She uses a good mix of myths and legends to keep the reader engaged and her use of descriptive words helped the reader get into the book and enjoy it
The Hogwarts school seems to be realistic than fanstsy. Just like any boarding school, where students live in dormitories, have lesson in school and have breakfast, lunch and dinner at school dining hall.
the author is successful in making most of the readers to imagine themselves to be in the fantasy thou it is a fantasy.
the choice of words used are carfully chosen to elicit the best decription she meant. all the details linked beuatifully together with a lot of out-of-the-box story-line and plot, settings and even characters.
JK Rowling is a writer who is not only able to relate to how most children feel (lonely, socially awkward) but she's also able to write a story where these characters are rewarded.
The characters in Harry Potter is very relatable. They have realistic storylines and they have rules (3 unforgivable curses) and even limitations. It sets the boundaries for readers to imagine, without going overboard.
Although, in reality, magic is a figment of the imagination, she was able to make it seem like a subject that we can learn through practise and classes, unlike the witches who are just born with it, as seen in some stories.
So, in my opinion, JK Rowling has done a fantastic job in relating the real world to her writing.
I am sure most of you have read this book or at least watch its movie. To what extent is the author able to make the fantasy more believable than a realistic work?
To start off, there is a realistic storyline and yet readers can go beyond the usual boundaries to imagine.
In the movie itself, it portrays a very real side of human life, even though it is a fantasy story. Students still go to boarding school, lead everyday lives. e.g. eat sleep go to lessons.
I am sure most of you have read this book or at least watch its movie. To what extent is the author able to make the fantasy more believable than a realistic work? I believe the words used in the books do play a very huge role in conveying the story vividly to the reader. However, I think it is our human’s imagination that plays an even greater role. A single sentence when read by different people can have different interpretation and thus imaginations of scene. And often or not, these scenes imagined by our mind always satisfy the elements we do not have in our real life. I believe thus us why fantasy are always appealing to children and even adults.
